Saltbush Meats |
|
For some time all the oldtime drovers and shearers kept telling Andrew Sippel how good saltbush-fed meat was, so in 1998 he started trialling lambs on saltbush and found out that they were right. The meat from saltbush-fed animals is fantastic, tasty and aromatic, he says. Sippel has now been producing chemical free saltbush-fed lamb for six years under the brand name of Drover's Choice. This meat has exceptional flavour and is always moist and tender and is totally chemically free as the lambs are reared on open rangeland country and stay healthy and strong with no need for additional chemicals. Drover's Choice Saltbush Lamb is only sold at farmers’ markets and to selected restaurants. Sippel says his main business was the growing of saltbush seedlings for farmers, so it was not hard to take the next step to start finishing lambs on saltbush. Today he and two other farmers now drive the business of Saltbush Meats using lamb from his saltbush customers and his own property.
