“Scoop is for folk who just love good food and don’t want to pay a fortune for it,” say Rachel McMillan and Claudia Lisle-Worner. “Our focus is quality and Fleurieu. Come and join us. Get in the Scoop loop!”

The wholesale regional produce business started in Dec 2004 when Rachel McMillan realised there was a need for regional food distribution to restaurants in the southern Fleurieu region. They began by assisting restaurants when menu planning, and advising what produce would be in season.

Locals wanting to know how they could have access to the same fresh produce inspired Scoop to open up a retail outlet. The retail arm followed in October 2006 with the first location on the main road in Port Elliot at the old Garage. With the wholesale business rapidly expanding the girls moved the business to larger premises on the outskirts of town, its current site, in May 2007.

Scoop stocks a huge range of Fleurieu products. The range includes seasonal fruit and vegetables, country meats, farmhouse cheeses, olives, olive oils, nut oils, dried fruit, nuts, jams, dips, pate, chutneys, bread and much more. Scoop prepares its own gourmet muesli from local ingredients and when in season also makes preserved limes, glace figs, quince paste, chutneys and preserves. To accompany the local produce Scoop also has a sophisticated range of Asian and European gourmet products.

Scoop @ the Shed has become a hub for foodies, sourcing the best local produce from a huge range of Fleurieu growers. Travelling the picturesque Fleurieu Peninsula daily, Scoop collects supplies from small backyard growers to some of the largest and established producers (Hindmarsh Valley Cheese, Cicada Olives and Oils, Herbivorous, Coriole, BD Paris Creek, Alexandrina Cheese). Many local backyard growers of quince, figs, pomegranates and various seasonal fruit also deliver their produce to Scoop @ the Shed daily.

In 2006 at Woodstock winery, Senator John Hill, Minister for Southern Suburbs presented Rachel McMillan of Scoop SA with the Award for Fiesta! Food Business of the Year in front of an audience of industry peers, Fiesta! ambassador Cheong Liew, and Member for Mawson Leon Bignell. Pip Forrester, a local food icon and then Chairperson of Fleurieu Food was quoted as saying “Scoop SA is highly regarded and a popular choice as Food Business of the Region 2006. Good eating and great cooking comes from using fresh seasonal ingredients. Scoop SA helps more locals and visitors to taste the difference of locally grown and made food.”

Both Rachel and Claudia have a broad background in hospitality and tourism. It is their shared passion for fresh food and the importance of food in our culture that drives the business.

Scoop maintains close relationships with their customers and local growers which assists to balance the supply and demand of local produce. This in turn supports local growers and producers, reduces food miles, encourages produce diversity and ultimately provides the freshest, tastiest local food possible to the consumer.

A new arm of the Scoop is to supply fresh boxes of local, seasonal fruit to businesses for their staff and encourage people to think about the food they eat and where it comes from. As part of the Scoop philosophy of giving back to the community, Claudia and Rachel are deeply involved in Cittaslow, Slow Food and Fleurieu Food.
