The Olsons took over this pheasant farm which has been in operation since the 1960s twelve years ago.
“I'm a foodie and a Food and Tech teacher,” says Ros Olson. “My husband has spent most of his life farming, so it was a new challenge to us which fulfilled both our loves.”
The farm produces game birds (pheasant and guinea fowl) which are currently marketed under the Glenloth Game label to fine food outlets and restaurants Australia-wide. Twelve months ago the Olsons handed the growing out of the birds and the marketing over to Glenloth, so in fact they are now only a hatchery, but still sell frozen birds, grown and processed by Glenloth Game, on the farm under the Olson label.
In addition partridge is produced and grown on the farm and marketed under both Glenloth and Olson brand names.
These game birds are not available in supermarkets but are sold in markets and gourmet food outlets. Ros Olson hopes that in the future Glenloth will start producing the popular pheasant sausages again.
Open: Usually 10 am- 4 pm daily, but advisable to call before coming out. Good idea to check on availability of birds too.
DIRECTIONS: See map on website. Turn left off Murray Valley Hwy 10 kms north of Swan Hill onto Chillingollah Rd. Follow the road for 23 kms and Olson Game Birds are on the left (4 kms past the water tower).
