In 1995 Leon and Rita Tokar came across 42 acres of bare dirt in what is now considered to be the dress circle of the Yarra Valley. They commenced planting pinot noir, cabernet sauvignon, and shiraz in 1995 and 1996. In 1998 they planted a Spanish variety called tempranillo, which over the years has been awarded national & international recognition. In order for their wines to be more available, a cellar door was opened in 2000 and then in 2003 they opened up a restaurant to demonstrate the food and wine match.
Both Leon & Rita are passionate cooks, and have always entertained on a regular basis. The restaurant has now become an extension of their dining room, where customers are treated to the same hospitality that Rita and Leon offered their friends when dining at home. Understandably many of these customers have now become close friends too.
