Improved Food Standards Australia New Zealand Web Site Launched:
Food Standards Australia New Zealand’s (FSANZ) improved web site will make is easier for consumers, the food industry and health professionals to find information about food standards and other food concerns. Following a survey of users, the web site has been redesigned and made easier to navigate. The web site has more than 2,000 pages of information on a wide variety of food matters including: food standards and how to change them, food recalls, consumer information and scientific and technical reports.

Taste the Tweed: A Food Writers’ Feast will be held at various venues throughout the Tweed on Friday, September 8. It is a free service consisting of a large searchable database of produce and value added products from regional New South Wales, Australia. Producers from all regions of NSW are welcome to register with the Produce Shop for free, allowing them to benefit from promoting to prospective customers online.

Prospective buyers including restaurants/cafes, food providors, wholesale agents, chain store produce buyers, farmers' market operators and the general public can easily search the Produce Shop and gain access to producer's contact details and a brief description of their produce.

The website is currently under review the design and content of produceshop to assess its effectiveness on delivering on its aims and whether it meets the needs of the producers and potential buyers.

Sydney Royal Fine Food Show  – 16 – 24 August 2006
Australia’s top experts in the Fine Foods industry will scrutinise approximately 1000 products in only seven days at the Sydney Royal Fine Food Show. The touching, viewing, smelling and tasting of the gourmet products will take place from Wednesday 16 August to Thursday 24 August 2006. 
Organised by the Royal Agricultural Society of NSW (RAS), the Sydney Royal Fine Food Show aims to award excellence in Australian agriculture through its impartial judging standards and reliable association with quality and distinction. Entry numbers have been strong to record-breaking with some Competitions almost trebling previous years’ numbers. 
Of most relevance to this site is the Regional Foods Competition, being judged Thursday 24 August 10am to 12noon

MONEY AVAILABLE
The Australian Government is investing in the future of our processed food industry with the four-year, $12 million Food Processing in Regional Australia Program (FPRAP). Grants of $15,000 to $200,000 are available on a competitive basis for individuals and groups seeking funding for food processing projects.
To apply you must be:
• a small to medium farm, food processor or agri-business;
• proposing a commercially viable food business project that will benefit rural and regional Australia; and
• able to demonstrate that you can match Program funding.

Under the new guidelines, small to medium sized agribusinesses located anywhere in Australia are eligible to apply. Applications for round four of the Food Processing in Regional Australia program close at 5pm on Friday 31 August 2006. Application forms and program guidelines can be downloaded from www.daff.gov.au/regionalfood. Alternatively, you can call the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry (DAFF) on 1300 794 550 to be mailed a copy of these documents.
