And now for two completely different little books. The first one deals with all those BIG things we like to talk about and be photographed beside all around the country. Interestingly many of them are food related – think the Big Banana at Coffs Harbour, the Big Pie at Yatala, the Big Pineapple at Woombye, as well as every beer-lover’s dream, a big stubby (yes, really!), an immense mango, mandarin, macadamia nut, crab, lobster and much more.
In this entertaining book author, Craig Scutt, takes us all on a guided tour of Australia’s biggest icons. He misses the Big Potato at Robertson in the Southern Highlands, but that possibly because he wouldn’t work out what it was meant to be! Or maybe he is already compiling Aussie Icons II.
The other book of Aussie Cakes has to receive top marks for originality. This time Aussie icons turn up as cakes – koala, echidna, croc, banana, meat pie, a footie, they’re all there, even a gum tree! The cakes are not professionally iced, but instead endearingly executed as most of us would do them at home. The clear instructions make them just right to work on with budding junior cooks.
