Six years ago food and wine-lover Warwick James felt that a day of sightseeing to the Cairns Highlands was not complete without taking time to explore what the local food and wine producers had to offer. To meet this need, he established Food Trail Tours, a food and wine tour specialising in farm gate and cellar door visits.

Farm gate stops include farm tours, and every stop features tastings of local products. On these tours visitors not only explore the sights but also visit local food and wine producers. With tropical fruit wines, macadamias and coffee, as well as tropical fruits, cheeses, and chocolates in this rich and diverse area, there is something for everyone.

On interactive farm tours you are able to talk with owners and family members who work the business, meet locals and taste different foods at every stop. It
is a wonderful change of pace, providing amazing insights into Australian country life.

The Highlander tour visits both the wet and dry tropics. On this tour there are two tropical fruit wineries, coffee and macadamia plantations, a dairy producing cheeses and chocolates, as well as a visit to the amazing Curtain Fig Tree.

The Mareeba tour, goes to the dry tropics visiting coffee and macadamia plantations, a tropical fruit winery, walks among tropical fruit trees, stops at Granite Gorge to feed wallabies and finishes the day with tropical fruit ice-creams.

Admission, tastings, lunch, morning and afternoon tea, are included in the price of each tour.
