Contact Person: Alla Wolf-Tasker

Licensed: Yes

Cuisine: In the kitchens, a talented young team under the guidance of Executive Chef Alla Wolf-Tasker works from the ground up producing cutting edge, modern Australian cuisine with an emphasis on seasonal and regional ingredients.

Average cost of main course: $35-$38

Speciality: Local produce. A network, developed over the years, of local growers and suppliers, provides the best and choicest regional produce to this country kitchen. This includes chestnuts, wild mushrooms, morello cherries, wild berries, rabbits, venison, duck, free-range chickens and eggs, trout, eels, yabbies, lamb, beef and an increasing amount of organically grown and produced goods.

Grows: There is still a small kitchen garden that supplies the restaurant with herbs and an orchard that produces quinces, apples, pears and plums.

Makes: The fruit from the orchard is turned into jams, chutneys and relishes and used at breakfast and also for people to take home. The produce is strictly seasonal so for example once the raspberry and rhubarb jam has run out you won't see it for another year.

Takeaway: Gourmet hampers are ideal for people wanting some delicious goodies to take away. There are three different sizes and can be ordered through Lake House. At least 4 hours notice is needed as hampers are put together specifically for each order.

Outdoor: The restaurant takes prime position overlooking the waters of lake Daylesford. There are plenty of windows to capture the views or guests can dine on the outdoor terraces.

The wine list boasts 700 labels and the cellar houses almost 10,000 bottles. The short term cellar doubles as an area for wine tasting and also private dining. Perfect for up to 14 people, the Cellar is a popular choice for private functions and celebrations. Surrounded by some of the most delicious drops in the world, guests enjoy exclusive use of the space as they dine on a series of dishes from the Lake House kitchens. The adjacent lagoon deck overlooks the water and is a great place to start the evening as the sun sets.

Alla's recently released book,"Lake House - A Culinary Journey in Country Australia" is a celebration of the hospitality industry. It is a celebration of food, wine, producers, suppliers, guests, family and friends and of course the seasons.

Breakfast daily, Lunch Wed - Mon, Dinner Wed- Mon

DIRECTIONS: From Melbourne CBD travel over the Westgate Bridge and take the Western Ring Road until the left Western Highway exit with signs to Ballarat. Once on the Western Highway travel for about one hour until the Ballan/Daylesford turnoff. After this left exit turn right toward Daylesford and travel for around 30 kilometres. Lake House is a left hand turn off King Street, the main road into town. Should you reach the roundabout opposite the post office in the main township you have travelled about 200 metres too far. Turn around and you will find Lake House on the right.
