Local produce: This restaurant prides itself on sourcing quality local produce from Western Australia: Carnarvon scallops, Shark Bay prawns, Dardanup sirloin and Linley Valley pork for example.

Grows: The Capel Vale kitchenhand prepares seasonal produce such as Shiraz Rose strawberry jam and Viognier apricot jam, combining the two themes of wine and food. Other items include Capel Vale dukkah, tomato relish, mixed olives and apple balsamic reduction.

The restaurant opened in 2002 and since then has become known for sourcing regional and seasonal produce. All dishes are carefully matched to Capel Vale wines, providing a mini-degustation style lunch. The second floor restaurant looks across the vineyard towards the Capel River, the stunning view accentuated by the decor of the restaurant.

In November 2008 it received the Best Restaurant in the South West award, as well as Best Restaurant in a Winery, and Best Maitre (award) a major achievement in the food and wine-conscious south-west of WA.

Capel Vale has been crafting intensely fruit driven, powerful yet elegant wines from the cool regions of Western Australia since 1974. Family owned, Capel Vale has established mature vineyards in Geographe, Pemberton, Mt Barker and Margaret River, and produces wines that reflect the distinct climate and soils of each region.

Founded in 1974 by Western Australian wine industry pioneer Dr Peter Pratten and his wife Elizabeth, Capel Vale is still owned and managed by the Pratten family. Their passion for wine continues to drive the growth and diversity of Capel Vale, which is one of Western Australia's longest established and best known brands, also available throughout Australia, Europe, the USA and South-East Asia.

DIRECTIONS: About 2.5 hours south of Perth. On Bussell Highway, take Stirling Road on the right after the turnoff to Capel. Mallokup is the first right, very close to Bussell Highway.
